 CCF 4140 Chromoly Slides
CCF has released it’s Premium Drop-in replacement slides for use on both CCF RaceFrames™ and on original Glock® G17/22/31/34/35 pistols. Standard models, called “Classic”, are identical to factory original Glock® slides with the rear cocking serrations angled to match the grip’s angle. Enhanced model offers a second set of cocking serrations at the front plus a fine serrated sighting panel on top, to eliminate glare, as employed on many high-end 1911 Auto slides. Fabricated from pre-hardened & normalized 4140 Chromoly carbon steel, extremely resistent to galling issues when used on a stainless frame. Breech face & ejection port wire EDM cut for precision dimensional tolerances. CCF RaceFrames® LLC chose the extremely durable molybdenum Robar Roguard matte black finish ( info: http://www.robarguns.com/roguard.htm ). This is the finest slide available for use in the Glock® community, ideal for duty, concealed carry or hard-running competition pistols.
WHY DID CCF RACEFRAMES® DECIDE TO PRODUCE THEIR OWN SLIDE?
In surveying the market, we could not find a slide, other than an original Glock®, that we could support or endorse. Stainless alloy slides, as
commonly offered, are a low cost alternative but a poor choice for slide fabrication on two issues:
- STRENGTH - stainless alloys cannot approach the strength of 4140 chromemoly steel
- Stainless Steel slides on a stainless frame will result in galling – stainless alloys do not work well in friction with each other, unless at least one of the components is coated with an extremely durable finish, such as the Robar NP3 finish
DO I REALLY GET WHAT I PAY FOR with a CCF Raceframe® slide compared to alternative lower cost aftermarket slides?
The old saying about “no free lunch” really applies here. There simply is no substitute for 4140 Chromoly in this application - 4140 Chromoly is not only stronger than the stainless alloys, it is the most durable & dimensionally the most stable alloy for this application.
Unfortunately, not only is 4140 a more costly material to source, we source it already heat treated and annealed, then machine it in the hardened state to avoid post machining operation heat treat warpage. Machining it in a hardened state is more costly, both in terms of machining time as
well as tooling costs. However, great improvements in dimensional stability and control are realized.
What this means to the end-user is that our slides are an exact duplicate of the Glock® slides, with none of the machining operation shortcuts
aftermarket manufacturers commonly employ. Our slides will require no fitting for use with our RaceFrame™ or with an original factory Glock®
frame, and used with a CCF Raceframe® barrel, the exact fit means out of the box accuracy on par with a custom fitted barrel, as well as increased long-term durability at a lower cost than a customized slide and barrel.
TWO SLIDE VARIATIONS AVAILABLE:
One variation, The “CLASSIC”, is a standard configuration Glock® slide with angled rear cocking serrations, matching the grip angle, as pictured below.
The 2nd variation, called “ENHANCED”, has angled front cocking serrations added at the front along with a finely serrated sighting panel on the slide’s top surface, as employed on high-end flat top and serrated 1911 Autos.
